“Voyager” by Nick Milinazzo Exhibit
Glencoe Mansion is pleased to announce its new art show, “Voyager” by Roanoke based artist Nick Milinazzo. The show will be on display May 8th through June 23rd. There is an opening reception Thursday, May 16, from 5 pm to 6:30 pm.
Nick Milinazzo presents “Voyager”, which takes the audience through the progression of his work spanning the past three years. As Nick explores new styles and iterations of his work, his voyage is also a way of self-reference. Using composition, color theory, and reflection, “Voyager” is a stunning exhibition that allows for open interpretation and is visually engaging. The Opening Reception falls on the same day as Nick’s milestone 40th birthday.
Nick says, “When I begin a painting, I have no preconceived notions as to what the end-product will look like. Through a process of intuition and spontaneity, I attempt to coax the image out of a panel. This involves both the building up and subsequent removal of numerous layers of pigment. The back-and-forth process (layering, blending, scraping, wiping away) will imbue the work with a sense of movement and energy. I do not use brushes when working, but instead a set of different scrapers. This allows me to become more active with the piece – using the force of my entire arm and body. My abstract paintings are fictive models: they make visible an inorganic reality that cannot be found in nature alone.”
Glencoe Mansion, Museum and Gallery is located at 600 Unruh Drive in Radford, Virginia and is free to visit. This exhibition is suitable for all ages. Open Wednesday through Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm and Sunday from 1 pm to 4 pm.
