Winter Storm Warning from Midnight Tonight Until 8 am Thursday.

* WHAT…Heavy snow and blowing snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches, with localized amounts up to 7 inches at higher elevations, are expected. Wind gusts 35 to 50 mph Wednesday and Wednesday night at higher elevations.

* WHERE…Southern sections of the New River Valley and Mountain Empire Region of southwest Virginia, Northern Mountains of North Carolina.

* WHEN…From midnight tonight to 8 AM EDT Thursday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Plan on difficult travel conditions, downed trees and limbs, and potential power outages. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph will cause areas of blowing snow and sudden changes in visibilities.
