Underwood, Jimmy Lee

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Jimmy Lee Underwood of New Castle Virginia flew to heaven July 25, 2020 to join his mom Francis and dad Jim; and to hold his precious grandson Gabriel.

He lived his life in service and protection. Jimmy was honored to serve in the USMC and continue his life’s mission helping the weak and vulnerable to find stable loving homes. His life’s calling was social work for foster children and adult protective services where he urgently and relentlessly advocated for and loved so many.

Jimmy treasured all children, and especially his own – Brandon Underwood; Tarenne & Chris Herron; Samantha & Ryan Wilkerson; Tessa Underwood. The beautiful grandbabies who captured his heart and kept him playing on the floor are Jaedyn Taylor, Bella and CJ Herron. Most of all, Jimmy loved Becky who he met when he was 11 years old. Jimmy leaves siblings Rob Underwood, Mike and Jack Hicks and Leigh Labbie. There are so many other in-laws, out-laws, relatives by blood or choice that made his circle whole and his world full of color and wonder.

Jimmy’s spirit will live on. Every fall, he’ll suit up in Lane Stadium and swagger in to “Enter Sandman”. When an Eagles song plays, he’ll be singing along. When we think of fried potatoes, sarcasm and caulk he will be there. And, every piece of duct tape will remind us of the many repairs he made to the invisible superman cape that he so tenderly wrapped around those in his care.

You made a difference on this earth. We will see you again on the other side Jimmy Lee.

In honor of Jimmy please consider opening your heart and home to a child in need or supporting your Department of Social Services.

Due to the pandemic we will have a family only remembrance. Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
