Toms Creek Basin Meetings

Toms Creek Basin MeetingsBlacksburg community members are invited to join in ongoing conversation about Toms Creek Basin (TCB) as the TCB Planning Study team hosts two public events this week.

An OurTCB Community Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, July 31 from 5:30 until 7:00 pm at the Blacksburg Community Center (725 Patrick Henry Drive). Participants will learn more about the project, then participate in small group discussions.

A Brews in the Basin Pop-Up event will take place on Thursday, August 1 from 4:00 until 7:00 pm at Rising Silo Brewery (2351 Glade Road). Community members are invited to stop by for a friendly chat with the TCB Planning Study project team.

All are welcome, including children.

As the Town of Blacksburg continues to grow, the community’s need for workforce housing, recreation, and jobs will need to be balanced with environmental stewardship, open space management, and infrastructure investment in the Basin. The TCB Planning Study will create a shared vision that aligns these different elements and community needs. The study will take approximately one year to complete and is being led by planning and community development firm Development Strategies, in close partnership with a steering committee and Town staff from several departments.

TCB comprises approximately 4,000 acres west of the US Route 460 Bypass and north of Prices Fork Road. TCB was annexed into the Town in 1973. When surveyed in 1996, residents stressed the importance of preserving the rural character, open spaces, and scenic views of TCB. Blacksburg’s Town Council re-affirmed this sentiment in 2022 at its biannual retreat.
