The Coronavirus Relief Bill
As I have watched the various reports about the contents of the Coronavirus Relief Act, my reactions have shifted back and forth between shock and absolute disgust. Wanting to help those impacted by the last few weeks of shutdowns is commendable, but I am utterly infuriated by the crap that legislators are adding to this.
I think it’s time to mandate single issue legislation in our country. This bill should be ONLY about relieving the issues caused by the coronavirus outbreak. If you want to send millions of bucks to NPR or Planned Parenthood or the Endowment for the Arts, write up a bill and work to pass that separately. But don’t shove that down our throats as part of the recovery from the coronavirus scare.
These pork barrel add-ons are an offense to every citizen of this nation. We need to vote these scumbags out of office who want to railroad our tax dollars into their pet projects without our knowledge or support.
What this also says to us as citizens is that our legislators KNOW that they couldn’t get the support to send billions of dollars to their pet projects (and financial supporters) if the laws had to pass or fail on their own merit. The only way they can get that money is to steal it by HIDING it inside an unrelated law that they know the public wants to pass.
If you want to help the citizens you represent, stop stealing from us! Single issue legislation is essential, as well as term limits and and a complete overhaul of the compensation and benefits provided to our “representatives” who are voted in to serve US.
