Tamminen, June Lyons

Tamminen, June Lyons 2June Audrey Ramona Lyons Tamminen, Born May 24th, 1928, Joined her loved ones in Heaven on March 15th, 2024. June was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Always the card shark, whether in NJ, VA or AZ, she always enjoyed a rousing game of Gin Rummy, taking great delight in always beating her grandchildren at the game. Ever the lover of flowers, she became an aficionado of the African Violet. She was always known to have the most beautiful, freshly picked flowers in Blacksburg from the Main Street town medians done under the cover of darkness (“I pay my taxes”). She was very supportive of her family in all their endeavors, encouraging them that the bad is better out than in. She was a fan of radio shows in her younger years, which gave her many wonderful hours of entertainment and fond memories of times with her loved ones. She was so loving with her grandchildren, her greats, and even her children (who at times) would earn one of her mastered looks of stern admonishment with a glint of mischief and sparkle of love, with a twinkle of unadmitted amusement in her eye (“Go to bed, you’re getting silly”). Always the “Jersey Shore Girl” she was a connoisseur of softshell crabs and clams. She was strong, determined, kind, compassionate, giving, loving, resourceful, grateful, and ever gracious. The sound of her laugh would warm our hearts and her soft looks of love and admiration will live with us forever.
