Spring Cleanup in Blacksburg
Blacksburg Public Works continues to conduct its town-wide collection of winter storm-related brush pickup and will be working in the Northwest and Southwest quadrants simultaneously over the next 2.5 weeks.
Across the 19-square miles of town, the amount of storm debris is significant. Since February, Blacksburg Public Works has collected 531.52 tons of brush from the Southeast and Northeast quadrants alone; crews are working daily to complete pickups in the remaining quadrants and expect to exceed 1000 tons of brush collected by the time pickup is finished. This expected 1000 tons collected from storm-related cleanup is five times the tonnage that would be collected in a typical full year of brush collection.
Beginning April 7, Public Works will complete another town-wide collection of brush as part of the town’s annual Spring Cleanup. Spring Cleanup will begin in the Northwest quadrant; residents in the Northwest quadrant should have debris to the curb no later than 7:30am on Monday, April 7, to ensure pickup.
