Snow to taper off but slick travel to persist through this evening

Snow is going to become light and taper off by 2pm, but expect another inch or so, especially close to the Blue Ridge south of Roanoke to Sparta. Temperatures in the teens and 20s will keep area roads slick with snow. Even the treated roads may have melted snow turn back to ice.

Additionally, winds will be picking up some this afternoon with wind chills dropping into the single digits to teens.

If you are planning to travel, prepare accordingly by including extra layers of clothing and extra blankets. Make sure your gasoline tank is full before you leave your destination. Reduce speed, leave extra distance between vehicles, and be especially careful braking.
