Snider, Jeanette Hughes 4Jeanette Ann Hughes Snider (89) passed away peacefully on November 19. She was born in Salina, Kansas to parents Anna Anthony Hughes and Talleyessyn Hughes.

Before endeavoring to pursue her dream of a degree in piano, she traveled to S.W. Virginia to visit her sister. She met her husband, Harvey Jackson (Jack) Snider of 65 years and never left. Together they raised four daughters, Terry Combs (Ed), Deonna Donohue (Paul), Arlene Snider and Anne Falls, had 3 grandchildren, Austin Donohue (Lacy), Francis Donohue (Ali), Michael Snider (Stacy) and 3 great grandchildren, Rowan Donohue, Molly Donohue and Siena Meyer-Donohue. Also, stepfamily Casey Combs (Alexa) and Baby Caleb.

Jeanette’s four main loves were family, career, art, and her church. Over the years she kept the family close with a tradition of gatherings for any and all occasions. She pursued degrees in laboratory technology and nursing, while developing her talents as a portrait artist. She had many interests including cooking, gardening and sewing all of which she passed down to her children who she supported wholeheartedly.

Jeanette joined St. Mary’s Catholic Church in 1953. Her love and devotion to the church was selfless and she volunteered countless hours as Director of Children’s Choir, RCIA coordinator, Parish Council member, member of the Arts and Environment Team, Liturgy coordinator, Eucharistic Minister, Spiritual Director and an artist for the church, with many of her pieces gracing St. Mary’s to this day.

Her church was her spiritual rock that never wavered. She cherished all her friends and fellow parishioners and felt blessed for all their love and support in her final days.

She will be deeply missed by all fortunate enough to have known her.

A celebration of her life, including a selection of her artwork, will be held November 30th. Visitation will be held at 9:30- 11:00 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Blacksburg. A Rosary service will be conducted 10:45-11:00, the funeral mass will begin immediately after. All are invited to Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg Virginia for internment a reception to follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
