Slaughter, Lonnie JamesLonnie James Slaughter, 78, Of Floyd, passed away on Monday September 30, 2024. Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents, Waitman and Iva Slaughter; brothers, Lane Slaughter, Jerry Slaughter; sister, Betty Slaughter; mother and father in-law, Charlie and Ora Reed; brothers-in-law, Eugene Reed, Quinton Simpkins; and sisters-in-law, June Simpkins, Donna Hayden.

Lonnie was the owner of Slaughters Supermarket and Garden Center along with Slaughters Tree Farm. He was a loving father and proud grandfather. He was a sports enthusiast who encouraged all his children and grandchildren to either pick up a ball or go to work. If any one of them ever got a scrape or cut, he would tell them to “rub some dirt on it”. He taught all of them that life was tough, but they had to be tougher and always look a man straight in the eyes and give them a firm handshake.

Lonnie is survived by his wife, Joyce Reed Slaughter; son, Timmy (Tracey) Slaughter; daughters, Susan (Scott) Rardin, Jennifer (Frank) Boothe; grandchildren, Emily (Tyler) Wheeler, Natalie (Gus) Underwood, Chloe (Parker) King, Shaelee Slaughter, Tyler Rardin, Taelon Slaughter, J.J. Rardin, Daecan Slaughter, Kendal Rardin, Waeman Slaughter, Jaeton Slaughter; great grandchildren, Brystan Wheeler, Everleigh Underwood, Kantry Wheeler, Barret Underwood, Layah Wheeler, Lainey King. Lonnie is also survived by numerous past and present employees and customers that became like family to him through the years whether it was at the Supermarket or on the farm.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024, at 1PM at Gardner Funeral Home with Pastor Roy Turpin and Pastor Phil Madison officiating. Interment will follow in Topeco Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5pm-7pm Thursday, October 3, 2024, at Gardner Funeral Home.
