Slate, Mark William

Mark William Slate, 61 of Christiansburg, passed away June 8, 2024. He was a lifelong member of the Radford Church of God of Prophecy – a dedicated Christian, son, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

He loved train rides on 611, bird and squirrel watching from his front porch and was a huge Bama Fan – ROLL TIDE!

Mark was preceded in death by his dad, James Slate; mom and step-father, Naomi Frazier and Roy D. Frazier; grandparents, Howard Alonzia Stump and Lelia Dove Stump; his special cousin/best friend, Bradley Crawford; also preceded by all his aunts, uncles and several cousins.

He is survived by his daughters, Chelsey Shifflett (Cory), Allyson Gladden (Justin); grandchildren, Shauwn Caleb Carter (Alexis Ousley), Zachary Carter, Clayton Watson, Brody Shifflett; great-grandchild, Raya Carter; and his best friend and dog companion, Jax. He also leaves behind many cousins, loved ones, and friends.

Visitation will be Thursday, June 13, 2024, from 5-8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. Funeral Services are Friday, June 14, 2024, at 11 a.m. in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Zane Cox officiating. Interment will follow in Den Hill Cemetery.
