Shull, Beverly Moore Strager
Beverly Ann Shull was born on April 27, 1947 (her father’s birthday) in St. Paul, MN to Paul J. and June Edith Moore. In 1949, the family moved to Bozeman, MT where she grew up and graduated from Bozeman High School in 1965. She never lost her love of Montana.
She attended Cottey College in Nevada, Missouri and transferred to Virginia Tech where she graduated with both a bachelor’s and master’s Degree in Early Education. She married Duke Strager (deceased 2007) at the Virginia Tech Chapel and moved to St. Clairsville, OH. From there, the football family moved to a suburb of Pittsburgh, PA and then to Murray, Kentucky.
In 1986 they moved to Blacksburg, VA where Bev taught first at Margaret Beeks and then Kipps Elementary until her retirement, having been a teacher for more than 40 years. She loved and kept in touch with many of her students long after they moved on from her classroom. She faithfully followed the HOKIES, she became a WASP when marrying Rufus ‘Buddy’ Shull in 2007. She was an active member of P.E.O. Chapter BP and St. Mary’s Church of Blacksburg and the Stephen Ministry Program.
She was loved beyond measure by her children: Shaye (Michael) Strager- Gilmartin in Atlanta, GA, Dallas Paul (LauRen) Strager in Charlotte, NC and Brea Lou Strager in Charleston, SC/Big Sky, MT. She adored her stepchildren, Scott & Stephanie Shull, Jess Shull and Tayler (Matt) Cooper, all of Radford, VA.
Bev’s legacy of love lives on in her grandchildren: Georgia June (Gigi) 13, Cashton Duke 7, Jaxson Joseph 3, Ben 20, Brody 17, Callie 3, Rylie 1, and Braxton 3 months.
Bev is predeceased by her parents and her sister Marilyn Marie ‘Mitzi’ Eaton. She is survived by her husband, Buddy Shull, her sisters Paulette (Dick) Boothe (Alabama) and Donna Moore (London, England) and her sisters-in-law: Judy Carter (Vienna, VA) Debbie Atkins (Radford) and Brenda Woolwine (Christiansburg).
A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, April 27th at Bev & Buddy’s home from 1-4:00 pm in Radford, VA. A second celebration will be held in Montana at the end of August. Details forthcoming. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Bev’s life.
