Saunders, Bruce William
Bruce William Saunders of Mocksville, North Carolina, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2024, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, at the age of 67. Born on July 13, 1957, in Pearisburg, Virginia, Bruce’s life was marked by his unwavering dedication to his family, his country, and his community.
Bruce’s journey began as the son of the late William and Myrtle Saunders, and he grew up alongside his siblings, the late Beverly Criner and Thomas Neal Saunders. His early years in Pearisburg were filled with the simple pleasures of rural life, which instilled in him a lasting love for the outdoors and a strong work ethic.
After proudly serving his country in the Air Force, Bruce found his calling as a truck driver with Heartland Express, a career that allowed him to combine his love for travel with his desire to help others. His time on the road was not just a job but a way of life that he deeply cherished. Bruce’s passion for the open road was matched only by the joy he took in fishing, a hobby that provided him with countless hours of tranquility and reflection.
Bruce leaves behind his loving spouse, Susan Saunders, and their family; his daughters, Stephanie Randel (Wes), Melinda Kennedy (Tommy), and Tracy Mohat (Doug), step-son, Chris Wiscarson, and thirteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to his immediate family, Bruce is survived by his sister-in-law, Marie Byers. Bruce’s legacy of kindness and generosity extended beyond his family, touching the lives of all who knew him.
