At approximately 12:27 p.m. today, Christiansburg Police, Fire and Rescue responded to a two-vehicle crash on Roanoke Street, just east of Kirby Drive. The preliminary investigation indicates that a 2001 Hyundai Sonata – driven by Scott Stanley Sisson, 50, of Shawsville – was travelling east toward Shawsville when it drifted across the center line into oncoming traffic. The vehicle collided with a 1997 Dodge pickup truck, driven by Roger Dean Collins, 44, of Riner. The pickup, which was travelling west toward Christiansburg, was pulling an enclosed trailer, and both the truck and trailer overturned as a result of the crash.

Scott Sisson had to extricated from the Hyundai and was airlifted to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital with what appeared to be life-threatening injuries. A passenger in the pickup, Aubrey Mills, 69, of Blacksburg, was transported by Christiansburg Rescue to the Carilion New River Valley Medical Center with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries. Collins, the driver of the pickup, as well as two other passengers in the pickup, were not injured.

No charges have been placed at this time, and the exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The crash resulted in an extended closure of Roanoke Street while the vehicles and debris were cleared from the roadway. The road was reopened at approximately 3:22 p.m.
