Refuse and Recycling Service Concerns

Due to multiple factors, trash and recycling collection may not be operating with their usual timing within any given collection day. Please make sure carts are at the curb by 7am and check that they have been emptied before removing them from the curb before 6pm. Any delay beyond the end of the collection day will be announced through Blacksburg Citizens Alert and the Recycle Coach app along with when the make-up collection will occur.

If you believe your trash or recycling collection has been missed, please call the Office of Waste Reduction and Recycling at 540-443-1212 or email recycle@blacksburg.gov.

The sooner issues are reported, the easier they are to address. If a cause is not immediately apparent, the collection company may need to be consulted to review the data collected by the truck. A common issue is confusion regarding the color-coding of the carts. Please remember that blue is for trash and green is for recycling.
