Ray, Ruth Whitaker

Ruth Madiline Ray, 74 of Newport, Virginia departed this life January 14, 2024 in the care of her beloved family after a courageous and victorious battle with cancer. She was born on May 14, 1949 in Montgomery County, Virginia to the late Robert Whittaker Sr and Aleene Oliver Whitaker.

Ruth enjoyed filling the hearts of her family, perhaps especially spoiling her puppies, Chi-Chi, and Rocky. She also enjoyed the fulfillment of cooking for her family and those who would go to Mountain Lake Lodge for dinner. When she was able, she too enjoyed the beauty of the nature that surrounded her and all it had to offer.

In addition to her parents, Ruth is preceded in death by a brother, Robert Whitaker Jr. and sister, Betty Ann Hungate.

Left to cherish her memory to their hearts are her beloved sisters, Dorothy Harvey and her husband Darrell of Newport, VA; Sandra Price of Radford; and Ella Clayton and her husband Hunter of Pembroke; a brother, Darrell Whitaker of California; and several nieces and nephews.
