Portion of Huckleberry Trail closed Dec. 8-9

Portion of Huckleberry Trail closed Dec. 8-9 4East Tennessee Natural Gas, LLC will be performing maintenance on its pipeline – which runs through Christiansburg – during the week of Dec. 7 and the week of Dec. 14. The work will occur near the Christiansburg Walmart and will impact the Huckleberry Trail.

On Dec. 8-9, a stretch of the Huckleberry Trail will be closed — behind Home Depot, Spradlin Farms Shopping Center and Walmart — while a contractor excavates in the area and sets up a temporary crossing. The Town of Christiansburg will place out signage prior to the closure, in both directions, to warn trail users and allow them the opportunity to exit the trail or turn around. This map (also below) identifies the work area and the locations at which signage will be placed.

The trail is scheduled to reopen on Dec. 10 via the temporary crossing. The work on the pipeline is expected to be complete during the week of Dec. 14; however, one additional temporary closure of the trail will be required to perform final reconstruction. This post will be updated when the date of that second closure is scheduled.

Atmos Energy receives gas from this pipeline and distributes it throughout the community. In anticipation of this planned maintenance, Atmos Energy has been working with both East Tennessee Natural Gas and CenterPoint Energy to identify alternatives to serve the Christiansburg area and prevent potential service interruptions. Specifically, Atmos Energy and CenterPoint have entered into an agreement to supply Christiansburg with Liquified Natural Gas (“LNG”). This LNG will be used as an alternative supply source for the distribution system, and Atmos Energy does not anticipate service interruptions to customers in the area.

Atmos Energy will also be reaching out separately to large industrial customers in Christiansburg to inform them of the upcoming work.
