Police Respond to Domestic Dispute

Police Respond to Domestic Dispute 2On Sunday, April 12 at approximately 7:39 p.m., Christiansburg Police received a dispatch call to the 300 block of Miller St. SE for a domestic dispute. Upon arrival, officers attempted to contact the suspect who was inside a residence. The suspect produced a handgun, causing the officers to back away, secure a perimeter, and attempt negotiations.

The suspect then walked outside with the gun and officers attempted to negotiate and de-escalate before the suspect returned inside. The suspect exited the residence a second time in possession of a gun and advanced toward officers.

Officers used less lethal ‘beanbag’ rounds in an attempt to take the suspect into custody without using lethal force. The suspect drew his gun and was shot by officers.

First aid was administered but the suspect died on scene. Virginia State Police is investigating.

The Christiansburg Police Department would like to thank the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and Christiansburg EMS for assisting
