Police chase ends in two arrests

State police arrested two people this afternoon following a vehicle chase and K-9 pursuit in Blacksburg. Police stopped a 1989 Honda Prelude with an expired inspection sticker. As the officer approached the vehicle the car sped away, leading to a short police chase. The driver got out of the car and fled on foot through a cornfield.

Troopers with the Virginia State Police, as well as officers with the Blacksburg Police Department, Virginia Tech Police Department and Christiansburg Police Department tracked and arrested the driver with the use of K-9s. No one was injured in the pursuit.

Arrested was Richard Wayne Shelor, 29, of Roanoke. He has an extensive felony criminal history, and a revoked driver’s license. Charges are also pending for the passenger in the vehicle.
