Patches of Black Ice Possible
Sunshine and temperatures near or just above freezing Friday afternoon allowed for some melting of snow, sleet, and ice. However, temperatures quickly dropped below freezing after sunset, and any water running across roads from piles of melting snow or ice was quickly freezing Friday evening and becoming black ice.
If you plan to travel overnight and early Saturday, use extreme caution and assume anything that appears wet is actually ice and drive accordingly. The same caution should be used while walking on sidewalks or through parking lots where water melting from piles of ice and snow becomes black ice. Travel tonight and early Saturday should be avoided if possible.
