Parker, Joseph Hank

Parker, Joseph HankJoseph Hank Parker, affectionately known as Joe, passed away on August 7, 2024, in Richlands, Virginia, at the age of 59. Born on June 9, 1965, in Christiansburg, Joe was a cherished member of his community and a loving figure in the lives of many.

Joe graduated from Christiansburg High School and furthered his education at New River Community College. He built a rewarding career, initially working at Bell Atlantic, and later dedicating many years as a trustee at Moose Lodge 1470. His commitment to his work was paralleled by his passion for hobbies, including participating in a bowling league, APA Pool, traveling, antique shopping, dinners with family and having adventures with the woman he loved.

A man of many interests and talents, Joe was also known for his love of animals and generous spirit. He was a true friend and a dedicated family man, described by those who knew him as kind, stubborn, fun, smart, and determined.

Joe is survived by his father, Bobby G. Parker; children, Dawn Parker and her fiancée Benjamin Poovey, Jonathan Parker, and Jessica Taylor; partner, Amity Layne; aunt, Patricia St John; and grandchildren, Elyjah and Willow Parker. He was preceded in death by his mother, Joan H. Parker-Janney, and aunt, Jeanette Wade.

Joe chose not to have a traditional funeral service; instead, he requested that any gestures of remembrance be made in the form of charitable donations. Contributions can be directed to Blackberrywinter.org, Friends of Tazewell County Public Library, or Tazewell County Animal Shelter, reflecting his lifelong support for community and animal welfare.
