NRV Passenger Rail Station Update
In June, the Virginia Passenger Rail Authority (VPRA) shared the news that the Cambria area of Christiansburg was being considered as a new location for passenger rail service for the New River Valley. This was a welcomed turn of events since this location appears to address many service priorities for the region and has the potential to deliver the service earlier and at a reduced overall project cost. Additional information is anticipated from VPRA in late August. The NRV Passenger Rail Station Authority is beginning to align their consulting engineering/architecture team for the new location as additional information becomes available.

This is the obvious choice because the alternate former Virginian Railway comes with huge tunnel rebuilding costs and a newly constructed branch. No extensions are possible unless you want the line to end in Princeton, WV. The Norfolk Southern did their best including selling the useless Christianburg Salem line to the state to distract everyone from the viability of its important low grade crossing of the Continental Divide on its double track Main Line. Of course, we the taxpayers will pay for the current stupidity.
