Newton, Marilyn Harris
Marilyn Harris Newton formerly of Richmond, VA passed away Sunday, December 1, 2024, at the Oaks of Richfield in Salem, VA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Capt. Robert Bradford Newton, USN (Ret.); parents James R. Harris and Ethel Lloyd Harris; and her grandson Evan Newton LaClair.
Marilyn was born February 8, 1937 in Columbia, MO, and was a graduate of Hickman High School and Stephens College. She was a loyal and devoted military wife, supporting her husband and enjoying tours of duty in Charleston, SC; Great Lakes, IL; San Juan, PR; Virginia Beach, VA; Pensacola, FL; and McLean, VA. While in McLean she began her career as a Real Estate broker. After her husband’s retirement from the U S Navy the couple lived in Sheridan, WY; Rockaway Beach, MO; and Richmond VA where Marilyn continued her career in real estate until she retired. She owned and loved many dogs throughout her life and volunteered with various rescue organizations.
Surviving are her children Leigh LaClair (Rick), Michelle Sisler (Mark), Robert Bradford Newton, Jr.; granddaughter Anne Michelle LaClair; sisters Nancy Page and Kay Benedict (Jerry); and nieces, nephew and extended family.
The family would like to offer a very special thank you to the staff at the Oaks of Richfield and Good Samaritan for the excellent care they provided Marilyn.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials take the form of donations to an animal charity of choice.
