New winter weather advisory until midnight

Sleet and freezing rain occurring. A mixture of sleet and freezing rain will continue into the evening commute. Precipitation will change to rain from southwest to northeast tonight before dissipating late this evening. Difficult travel conditions on untreated roads, including during the afternoon commute, are expected due to accumulations of ice and sleet. Additional ice accumulations of up to 0.05″ are expected through midnight.

* WHERE…The New River, Roanoke and southern Shenandoah Valleys in Virginia, the Blue Ridge mountains in Virginia and North Carolina, and the foothills of Virginia and North Carolina.

* WHEN…Until midnight EST tonight.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…The ground and pavement are frozen from the recent outbreak of Arctic air. Even if temperatures rise above freezing, icing may still occur on the ground.
