Montgomery, Dorsie Everett
Dorsie Everett Montgomery, 78, of Indian Valley, entered into his Heavenly Home on Sunday December 1, 2024, leaving behind his loving wife of 58 years, Reba. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank (Buster) & Allie Montgomery; brothers, Ernie, Willie, Carlos and Billy Montgomery; and sisters, Ivory Combs, Rosie Phillips, Bessie Huff, Sylvia Turpin, Lorene Janney and Lucille Gallimore.
Dorsie served in the United States Army from December 1965 until December 1967. He worked for Lynchburg Foundry for 37 years before retiring. Dorsie was a very hard and dedicated worker. He loved working on cars in his younger years. He and Reba loved to going on trips to Tennessee to see the antique cars that he loved so well. His favorite was his 50 Ford. He loved the outdoors, gardening and carpentry. Dorsie was a quiet man, with not a lot to say. He had a big heart and was willing to help anyone he could. He loved to do things for people without them knowing, or any recognition. He also loved to watch NASCAR and going to races in his younger years. He loved animals and watching his game cameras. Christmas was his favorite time of the year, he loved putting up the lights and decorations for everyone to enjoy. Dorsie loved the Lord and he attended Indian Valley Church of God faithfully for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Reba Phillips Montgomery; brothers & sisters-in-law, Ramsey Gallimore, Bobby & Sylvia Phillips, Roger Phillips, Clarence Phillips, Jackie & Alice Phillips, Ronald Phillips, Timmy & Sandra Phillips, Jo Phillips, Oleta Phillips and Ronald Smith; and many nieces and nephews. Dorsie was a very loved man and will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 6, 2024 in the Indian Valley Church of God with Rev. Kenneth Poston and Rev. Mike Bond officiating. Interment will follow in the Captain George Quesenberry Cemetery with Military Rites by the Army National Guard. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
