Miller, Jeffery Bowman
Jeffery Bowman Miller of Christiansburg, Va, died unexpectedly at his home, on Monday, August 5th, 2024. Jeff was born on July 22nd, 1948, in Harrisonburg, Virginia. He married the love of his life, Sandra Moore, in the summer of 1979 and worked as a steward of the nursery industry for many years.
He was the son of Ray Bowman Miller and Ava Lee Miller (Wilson). He was preceded in death by his parents and by his sister Jennifer Miller Owens. Jeff is survived by wife of 45 years, Sandra Moore Miller; his daughter, Gwendolyn Price Miller-Goulder and her husband Jordan Goulder and his granddaughter, Hazel Rose Goulder. He is survived by his son, Jason Bowman Miller and his wife Erin Leigh Miller, and grandchildren Ava Leigh Miller, James Bowman Miller, and Penelope June Miller. He is also survived by his siblings, Gregory Wilson Miller & wife Deborah Miller, his brother Timothy Ray Miller, and his sister Esther Lousie McDermott & her husband Tim McDermott. Jeff is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was a man of great integrity, kindness, and love. He’s a proud HOKIE alumni, horticulturist, beekeeper, photographer, woodworker, gardener, tinkerer, forever student of new technology, hot air balloon chaser, license plate collector, bubble maker, sun bather, brother, husband, father, Pop, uncle, cousin and most importantly he loved us all in everything he did.
Jeff worked with many people in the horticulture industry. His reach in the horticulture industry spanned everything from running Laurel Creek Nursery with his brother, Greg, to managing the Virginia Nursery & Landscape Association. As well as supporting the Virginia Agriculture Business Council, Horticulture Council, Virginia Christmas Tree Growers Association, Boxwood Society, and Virginia Soil Scientist. He was a drill sergeant in the United States Army Reserves. Was a 4-H All-Star in his youth, then later in his adult life he volunteered with Cooperative Extension office, a member of the local Bee Club, Jaycees, various community parades, was a travel soccer dad and a tee-ball coach.
He will be missed by all that knew and loved him. GO HOKIES!
Jeff’s memorial service will take place on Tuesday, August 13th at 10:00am. The service will be held at Horne Funeral at 1300 N. Franklin Street in Christiansburg Virginia.
