Mick, Lori Bell
Delores (Lori) Bell Mick died on June 1, 2025, at age 87. She was born on November 28, 1937, in Forest City, Iowa, to Margaret and Bernard Bell.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Harold Mick; son Gary Mick and wife Susan Mick; son Steven Mick and four grandchildren: Brian Mick and wife Briseida Uriarte; Ethan Mick and wife Anne Bertolet; Lindsey Mick and Ellie Mick; and three great grandchildren, Madeline Rose Mick, James and Calvin Mick-Bertolet.
Lori’s career was dedicated to Special Education. She worked as a Supervisor for the Virginia Department of Education, published research papers, and later taught special education courses at Radford University. She retired from Radford University in 2001. Lori loved to learn. She earned five degrees, including a PhD from Ohio State University.
In addition to her professional life, Lori had many friends who had intellectual disabilities or mental health issues. She was very generous, and she used her time, resources and knowledge to support people and their families with the many challenges they faced. Lori also enjoyed music, especially playing the piano and singing. After her retirement she could frequently be seen playing the piano at several of the local Senior Centers. Helping those with special needs was her legacy.

Dear Lori brought grace, serves sweetness, and compassion to thousands of people. May she rest in peace…she rested very little when I was a student of hers in the 80s at Radford and I so looked up to her. May her family take grief and use it to find energy towards connection with others.
