Meredith, David Allen

Meredith, David Allen 2David Allen Meredith, of Pearisburg, VA passed away surrounded by family on November 3, 2025 at Carilion Giles Community Hospital. Born in Giles County on June 23, 1952, he was a son of Betty Jean Martin Meredith of Pearisburg, and the late Teddy Theron Meredith. In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Stephen T. Meredith and Richard A. Meredith.

David is survived by his mother, Betty Meredith, three sisters, Carol Moore (Gene), Patsy Radford (Lynnie), Alesia Williams (Chris); wife, Beverly “Beth” Collins; children, Stacey Carter (Tommy), Bethany Meredith, and Zach Collins (Krystal); grandchildren, Morgan Atkins (Zachary), Makenzie Blankenship (Christian), Tommy Carter (Emma); great- grandchildren, Witten Atkins, Maven Atkins, Leighton Atkins, Kerrigan Atkins, Kash Blankenship and Fynlee Blankenship, Kennedy Price and Kenleigh Collins. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

David was a jack of all trades. While in Texas, he worked construction, upon moving home to Virginia, he worked at Rene, Radford Arsenal, and then was a self-employed tile finisher by trade. He could also be seen working on automobiles, could do plumbing, or wiring. If he didn’t know how to fix it, he would just buy a book to figure it out.

Work and his crafts were not those that set him apart, instead it was his passion for life and laughter. He was a self-taught guitarist, whose fingers danced over the strings as freely and maybe masterfully as he did when he was “Just a Swingin” at family gatherings until the night would end. His songs weren’t just music; they were the soundtrack of the lives he touched, personalized with memories and names that he wrote for all.

When he wasn’t singing or laying tile, David was the king of the kitchen. He could make a meal sing, and his dishes were like his jokes—best served with a side of humor and always leaving you wanting more. It is said that laughter is the best medicine, and David was a professional at telling legendary jokes. He was a golfer who knew that the only thing better than a birdie was a good joke about a bogey. His garden was a testament to his patience and green thumb. And let us not forget the horseshoe pit, where he was a master pitcher. David was a lifelong fan of Spartan football, yet when his health kept him from attending the games, he would tune in to WNRV. He also loved cheering on the Hokies!

Finally, David’s heart of gold and compassion was as evident as his sense of humor. He never met a stranger, and his ability to connect with people was magical. He was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back. His warmth and generosity were as infectious as his laugh, and he left an indelible mark on every life he touched.

The family would like to invite you to a celebration of life on Monday, November 17, 2025 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Giles Country Club where they will give thanks for all David was to them as it was David’s wish to be cremated.
