McPherson, Forrest William

Forrest William McPherson, of Shawsville, but affectionately known to his friends as Bill, or as Willy, or to his Army buddies in Vietnam as Mac, passed away unexpectedly July 23, 2018. His kind heart, warm nature, and great intelligence made it easy for him to make new friends and to quickly develop a depth of friendship that made each person special in both Bill’s eyes and their own. Over his 69 years and through his love of conversation in person or by phone, he gathered a large circle of dedicated friends that date back to childhood in Blacksburg and span all segments of society. Bill was a generous person, a special person, and now he is mourned by all who knew him. Bill, you left too soon, but anyway….maybe someday we’ll get together on that balcony in the clouds we talked about. Meanwhile, Bill leaves behind a cousin, Julia McCutchen and her family in Connecticut, and his cremains will be buried beside his parents, Col. William and Fredricka McPherson, in Westview Cemetery in Blacksburg. A gathering of friends will be held Sunday, August 12, 2018 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Blacksburg’s Vintage Cellar, 1338 S. Main St.
