McKenzie, Mildred Coalter
Mildred Coalter McKenzie, age 98, of Peterstown, WV, passed away on December 26, 2025, at Carillon Giles Hospital. She was born on November 23, 1927, in Assurance, WV, to Walter and Marjorie Coalter.
She attended Lindside Grade School and Peterstown High School where she graduated as Salutatorian of her graduating class. While in school, she met the love of her life, David, whom she married on January 14, 1945. They became parents of two children, Eugena and Gregory.
Mildred found purpose and connection through her involvement in community fellowship and service. As a longtime member of the Peterstown Woman’s Club and a 4H activities leader, she enjoyed contributing her time and voice to causes she cared about.
She was a member of Peterstown Worship Center (formerly Peterstown United Methodist Church), United Methodist Women’s group, and was a lifetime member of the Ballard Chapter of TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly).
Mildred lived a long and faithful life marked by love, service, and grace. A devoted homemaker, she found great joy in caring for her family and welcoming others into her home. Her kitchen was a place of comfort and connection, where her wonderful cooking nourished both body and spirit. A committed Christian, she lived her life quietly and faithfully each day, guided by kindness and patience. Her legacy of love, generosity, and faithfulness will be cherished by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband of almost 70 years. She is survived by her children: Eugena Thomas and husband CG of Princeton, and Greg McKenzie and Cathy of Rich Creek; grandchildren: Lynda Terry of Princeton, Sara McKenzie (Ronnie) of Rich Creek, and Andrew McKenzie and wife Natasha of Peterstown; great-grandchildren: Kristin Harmon and husband Choskie of Princeton, Kara Evans and husband Derek of Bristol, TN, Karson Terry of Bluefield, Maddie and Brady Smithson of Lindside, Kennedy and Porter McKenzie, and step great-grandchild, Ashton Moser of Peterstown; great great-grandchildren: Leo Harmon of Princeton and Maddox Evans of Bristol, TN. She is also survived by one sister-in-law, Nally McKenzie of Peterstown, and longtime friends Fred Terry of Peterstown and Mary McKenzie of Peterstown.
Visitation will be held from 12:00PM until 2:00PM on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home in Peterstown, WV. Funeral service will take place at 2:00PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Peterstown Cemetery, Giles County, Virginia.
