McGuire, Daniel Joseph
Daniel “Danny” Joseph McGuire, age 72, of Pilot, VA passed peacefully in his home surrounded by the people who loved him on Saturday, June 29, 2024. Danny was born in Christiansburg, VA on December 11, 1951 to the late Luther McGuire and Reba Ellen Linkous Allen.
He is also preceded in death by step-father James Monroe Allen, loving sisters Deborah Bale, Faye Smith, and Kaye Bradley, and father-in-law, Louis Melkus and mother-in-law, Betty Melkus who he loved dearly.
You would never guess by looking at him, but Danny was a lover of adventure. He and his wife of 32 years, Amy, made it so that they were always taking their little family to new and exciting places. This included annual trips to his favorite places in the world Topsail Island and Disney World. When it got to the point that he could no longer make these trips, he continued to encourage his wife and children to jump at every opportunity possible to go out and see the world. After the weeklong trips became too much for him, he found new love of taking weekend trips to Claytor Lake where he could fish and watch his family continue to grow older. Danny never let Muscular Dystrophy control what he did in life and as the years went on he continued to be a “glass half full” guy. He always wanted to be involved in everything that his family was doing and continued to be up until the end. Danny was looking excitedly towards his next adventure of becoming a grandfather, but God had different plans. Although we don’t understand why he was called home before we were ready, we do know that he was reunited with loved ones that he missed fiercely, and that he got the one thing that this life couldn’t give him, a brand-new strong body. We hope that his new adventure will be the best one yet.
Danny is survived by his wife of 32 years, Amy Melkus McGuire, daughter and son-in-law, Madeline and Matthew Mills, son Lukas McGuire, daughter, Anna McGuire, stepmother, Wanda Allen, sisters and brothers-in-law, Loretta and Matthew Wilburn, Rhonda and Bobby Mitcham, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Chris and Connie Melkus, as well as multiple nieces, nephews, cousins, and best friend, Marty Roop.
