Martin, Cantrall Marcell

Martin, Cantrall MarcellCantrall Marcell Martin of Pearisburg, Virginia, a cherished family patriarch, respected builder, and devoted man of faith, departed this life to be with his Heavenly Father and loved ones awaiting him beyond the veil on October 14, 2024, at the age of 83 with his loving family and under the care of Carilion New River Valley Medical Center.

Born on June 14, 1941, in Hoges Chapel, Virginia, Cantrall’s life was characterized by his dedication to his family, his work, and his community. Cantrall established a legacy of warmth and reliability that touched everyone he knew. He was a loving father to his son, Marcell Martin, and his wife, Amanda. His joy was multiplied by the presence of his grandchildren, Logan Martin and his wife Hannah and their baby Corbin; Tanner Martin and Megan; and Reagan Gillispie and her husband, Alex. This continued with another apple of his eye; his daughter, Kendra Martin Lane and Justin Lane, and their children, Alex Lane and Julia; Afton Lane and Tom; and Meghan Lane and her son, Saint Compton. Cantrall’s extended family, including special family members Donnie Rhodes, and Donna Sloan and her husband Randy, as well as sisters-in-law Pat Martin and Terry Waldron, will remember him fondly for his steadfast love and support.

Cantrall’s social circle extended beyond his immediate family, cherishing moments with his special going out buddies, Virgil and Kathy Lambert and Gene and Charlotte Shrader, and his special friend Ruth Duncan. His beloved dog, Rexie, was a constant companion and source of joy. He also leaves behind a host of close nieces, nephews, and many wonderful friends and colleagues, all of whom will miss his presence dearly.

Professionally, Cantrall was the esteemed owner of Cantrall Martin Construction, where he built numerous homes and helped shape the landscape of the New River Valley. His craftsmanship and integrity as a General Contractor earned him the respect and trust of those who had the privilege of working with him.

Cantrall’s commitment to his faith was unwavering. A proud and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints-New River Valley Stake Center in Pembroke, Virginia, he answered his call as a first counselor on many occasions, as well as a Bishop. His faith-filled life was an inspiration to all who knew him, as he was never afraid to share his love for the church; and his guidance and counsel will be deeply missed.

Throughout his life, Cantrall was largely proud of his family and community. He loved social events and never missed an opportunity for a cookout, embodying the spirit of a true gentleman. His interests reflected his love for people and the simple joys of life.

Cantrall is now reunited with his beloved wife of 55 years, Kitty Porterfield Martin, who he now joins for eternity. He is also embraced once more by his parents, Harold Martin and Nancy Williams Martin, his brother Dempsey Martin and sister Valma Meredith, with whom he shared a lifetime of memories.
