Man shot in car chase dies
A man shot and killed by police Tuesday in Montgomery County has been identified. Virginia State Police say Jason Lee McDuffy, 44 of Beckley, WV, died at the scene after being shot.
The incident began in Giles County when a deputy attempted to stop the driver of a Chevrolet pickup, pulling a trailer stolen Monday from Narrows, according to the Giles County Sheriff’s Office.
When pulled over, the driver refused commands by police to get out of the truck, and drove off into Montgomery County, where officers from several jurisdictions picked up the pursuit.
Police used stop sticks to deflate the tires, according to police. Despite having all four tires flattened, the driver continued onto Route 114 for several miles, where the vehicle was stopped. According to police, the driver refused to comply with officers’ directions and showed a gun, which led police to shoot.
No officers were hurt during the incident.
Virginia State Police are conducting the investigation. Once the investigation has been completed, the findings will be turned over to the Montgomery County Commonwealth Attorney’s Office for review

Police have to protect themselves. If you pull out a gun, then you’ll be shot. If someone pulled a gun on you, wouldn’t you shoot?

Proof of a gun in use by the victim is paramount to the investigation. I am NOT anti police but there are just too many incidents of killing suspects when unwarranted. INTERNAL investigation in a shooting fatality is just not the way to guarantee justice.
