Mahaffey, Betty Shaver
Betty Louvenia Shaver Mahaffey, 87 of Pearisburg, VA departed this life February 18, 2024 in her home. Born July 14, 1936 in Pembroke, VA she was a daughter of the late Robert and Laura Hutchison Shaver.
For many years, Betty was a familiar face at the local B&B store, where she served as a clerk. Her friendly smile and helpful nature made her a favorite among customers and colleagues alike. She later joined the team at Celanese in the beaming department, where her personality brightened the lives of all who worked alongside her. Betty’s commitment to her roles was evident in the meticulous care she brought to her tasks and the lasting relationships she built during her career. Beyond her work, Betty had a passion for the simpler pleasures in life. She could often be found taking leisurely walks around the neighborhood, where she would greet everyone with a wave and a warm hello. Her love for bluegrass music was profound, and she spent many joyous evenings at McArthur Inn, tapping her feet to the rhythm of the songs shared.
Perhaps nothing brought Betty more happiness than the time she spent with her grandbabies. She poured love and attention into caring for them, creating memories that will be treasured by her family forever.
In addition to her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her husband Russell Mahaffey; her seven siblings; and a special friend, Howard Givens.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Douglas Shaver and his wife Donna; grandchildren, Michael Shaver, and Andrea Shaver; great-grandchildren, Hudson Stafford, Allie Stafford, Coleson Barbosa, Addison Stafford, Atlas Robillard, Remi Shaver, Pippa Williams, and Everly Shaver; brothers, Ronald Shaver, and Bobby Shaver and his wife Judy; and sister, Edith Williams.
The family wish to give special thanks for the care and love given to Betty and the family by Gentiva Hospice Care; Centra Well Home Health; hospice nurses, Crissy Cline, and Lydia Wright; and caregivers, Crystal Coleman, Brenda Whittaker, and Samantha Stafford.
