Long, Phyllis Jean

Our dear mother and friend, Phyllis Jean Long sadly passed away on April 30, 2024, at the age of 76. She was a wonderful mother and wife who was always there when we needed her. Phyllis enjoyed spending time with her family, and her grandchildren held a very special place in her heart.

She lived in the Ballard community for her entire life and was well-loved by everyone who knew her. Mom and Dad were both loving caregivers throughout their lives to many pets who were very special to them, especially “Baby”, “Tom Tom”, and “Skittles”.

Mom was predeceased by her husband and the love of her life of over 50 years, Calvin “Sugar” Long; one daughter Michelle; and her parents H.C. “Doc” and Ethelene Canterbury, Mildred and Joe Savino, and Oscar Suttle.

Phyllis is survived by her daughters, Tammy Long and Janeen (Richard) McBride; grandchildren Josh (Aleigha) and Jesse Farmer, LaiLani Long and Wes (Jenny) McBride; and great grandchildren Lily, Alaina, and Olivia McBride. Phyllis is also survived by loving brothers and sisters, Drema (Allen) Greer, Jody (Wayne) Mabry, Stevie Joe Savino, Vicki Vaught, Tony (Tracy) Savino and special sister-in-law Carolyn Smith, her best friend Oneda Pack, Uncle Jack Suttle, and special nieces and nephews, Yvonne Davis, Jeff Greer, Nicole Doherty, Justin Mabry, Lisa and Shawn, Joseph and Angela.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 2:00 pm at the Family Community Worship Center in Peterstown, WV.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the Monroe County Animal League in Union, WV (P.O. Box 343, Union, WV 24983), or your local Animal Rescue Center in memory of Phyllis Long.
