Lineburg, Margaret Young
Margaret Joann Young Lineburg, 85, of Radford, Virginia died on August 11, 2024. Joann Young grew up in Marion, Va. and graduated from Marion Senior High School in 1956 where she played basketball, was a cheerleader, and an outstanding student.
She attended Radford College to pursue her passion of teaching and was a member of the Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority and graduated in 1960 and earned her Master’s degree in 1972. She began her teaching career at William Byrd High School in 1960 where she met her husband Norman Lineburg. The two married on July 30, 1965 and enjoyed 59 years of marriage. Joann taught physical education for 38 years in Roanoke County, Henry County, at Radford University, and Radford City. Joann was a decorated teacher gaining recognition at the local, state, and national level. She attended Central United Methodist Church in Radford where she was a member of the Chancel Choir for 50 years.
Joann was the mother of four boys Robert Grayden (Katherine Jackson), Radford, Va., Mark Young, Lynchburg, Va., Paul Norman (Crystal), Vinton, Va., and Wayne Everett (Tracey), Winston-Salem, N.C.; seven beloved grandchildren Margaret Clair, Robert Charles, Heidi Joann, Lucy Olivia, Morgan Leanna, Addyson Michelle, and Alexis May. Joann was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Neva Young along with her brother Robert Young and his life partner Barbara Houston. Joann is also survived by her brother Robert’s children Micheal Young (Margaret) of Blacksburg, Va. and David Young (Amy) of Roanoke, Va.
Joann lived an extraordinary life traveling the country and traveling abroad. Her hobbies included gardening, dancing, and sharing notes and photographs with her many friends. She was an avid supporter of the Radford University Highlanders and the Radford Bobcats. Her life was filled with music, literature, travel, and an abundance of friends. Joann’s enthusiasm for life was apparent to all who met her. She will be greatly missed. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to all of the doctors, nurses, and caregivers who were so kind during her illness as well as her many friends who showed such an outpouring of support.
In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate contributions to Radford University Highlander Club to support Women’s Athletics.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Central Church Radford, 803 Wadsworth Street, Radford, Virginia. A celebration of Joann’s life will begin at 1 p.m. with Pastor Doug Levy officiating.
