LDS Church donates to Feeding Southwest Virginia
On March 17 at 3 pm at the Salem Distribution Center loading dock, Feeding Southwest Virginia will receive the first of two truckloads of food from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This donation of food comes at a time when increasing food and fuel costs are impacting the budget of the Food Bank.
The donated items include canned beans, soups, pasta and other non-perishable products. The additional food donation is to assist Feeding Southwest Virginia due to the increased number of food insecure people in our community.
“This donation is particularly timely,” said Pamela Irvine, President and CEO of Feeding Southwest Virginia. “This donation of food will soften the impact of higher costs facing the Food Bank to help feed the region’s food insecure. No one deserves to be hungry. We are very grateful for this large scale donation from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.”

Feeding Southwest Virginia was founded in 1981 and proudly commemorates 40 years of fighting hunger and changing lives through community partnerships. The Food Bank is an affiliate member of Feeding America. For the last four decades, the Food Bank’s ultimate mission has remained the same: eliminate hunger in the region. The primary function of the Food Bank is to secure and distribute large quantities of food for the hungry. Approximately $30 million worth of food and grocery related products are channeled annually through a network of more than 380 partner feeding programs in our 26-county, 9-city region that provide food or meals to those in need.
