Lawson, Sr., Robert Alvin
Robert Alvin Lawson Sr., known affectionately as Bob to his friends and family, of Narrows, Virginia passed away peacefully on September 6, 2024, in Salem, Virginia. Born on April 14, 1940, in West Virginia, Bob was a man who lived a full and vibrant life, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, dedication, and kindness.
Bob was the loving father of Robert Lawson Jr. and his wife Sharon. He cherished his role as a grandfather to Hunter Lawson, imparting wisdom and sharing in adventures that will be fondly remembered and deeply missed. Bob was a brother to John C. Lawson and his wife Freda, Peggy Lawson, Janet Craighead, and Lynn Scaggs with her husband Glenn. He also held a special place in his heart for his “special daughters,” June Jones and her husband Terry, and Tammy Eaton with her husband Jimmy. His life was enriched by the presence of numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom he adored.
Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bonnie Lawson, and his parents, Crozier and Hazel Lawson. The love and lessons they shared will continue to resonate with all who knew him, as Bob’s life was a testament to the enduring strength of family bonds.
Professionally, Bob was a dedicated service repairman for Verizon, where his commitment to excellence and his problem-solving skills earned him the respect of his colleagues and customers alike. Beyond his family and career, Bob was an active member of the Optimist Club in Colonial Heights, Virginia. His involvement with the club showcased his belief in community service and his desire to contribute to the well-being of others. Bob’s optimistic outlook and generous spirit were hallmarks of his character, inspiring those around him to strive for betterment in their own lives and in the lives of their neighbors.
Bob’s interests extended beyond his professional and service work. As a seasoned hunter and fisherman, he found solace and excitement in the pursuit of game and the lure of the catch. His stories of outdoor escapades and the quiet moments spent in nature were sources of joy and wonder for all who listened.
The family will receive friends at a time of visitation on Sunday, September 22, 2024 from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM at Kendall Funeral Home. A memorial service will be conducted on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at 3:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Gary Poff officiating.
