King, Holly Jennings
Holly Jennings King of Craig, VA, left her earthly form to carry on with the next phase in her spiritual journey on the morning of Friday, September 27th, 2024, at her beloved house in Craig County. Born on October 12th, 1994, in Richmond, VA, Holly lived a life overflowing with love and joy. She was an adventure incarnate, a playful spirit radiating perpetual sunshine.
She leaves cherished memories with her devoted husband, Jude Cochran, her adoring parents, Richard (Bugsy) and Susan King, and her beloved brothers Ritchie (with his wife Caitlin and their son Jayce), Harrison (Celler Dwellers), Joshua Bland and Jeremy Parrish (Her Brothers From Anotha Motha). Holly was deeply cherished by her grandparents, PePaw (Richard) and MeMaw(Liz) King of Hot Springs, VA, Granny (Dolores) Mergenthaler of Gloucester, VA, and Marcia Hargis of Newport News, VA, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Her shining essence will also be missed by countless friends and colleagues from Radford University, Backcountry Ski and Sport, Pulaski County High School, and Eastern Montgomery High School. Holly was a loving wife, daughter, and friend whose short time on earth left an indelible mark on the hearts of many. She touched the lives of all who knew her.
Holly, who described herself as a Dreamer, Romantic, and Princess Warrior, began her lifelong passion for dance at five years old. She graced the stage for three enchanting seasons in The Nutcracker with the Richmond City Ballet. Holly took immense pride in her role as the “Poofer,” lending her talents behind the scenes with unwavering dedication. Her spirit wasn’t confined to the ballet; Holly was also a feisty Black Belt in Karate, not afraid to use those skills to advocate for others.
Holly attended Appomattox Regional Governor’s School for the Performing Arts, but her drive led her to leave a year early to pursue her studies at Radford University. With grace and determination, she took control of her future. At Radford, Holly deepened her connection with nature, finding peace in the great outdoors. Post-graduation, Holly worked at a local outdoor retailer, where she forged lifelong friendships and met the love of her life, Jude.
Holly’s adventures took her to various places, yet she eventually returned to the New River Valley, the place she truly called home.
Holly left a deep impression on many, from her community in Richmond to the deep bonds formed in the New River Valley. All who knew Holly will miss this woman who could be just as comfortable bursting into spontaneous grocery store concert/dance as she could sitting in silence, pondering life’s profound questions. Holly was the embodiment of warmth, love, and light. She radiated coziness and comfort, instantly bringing a sense of ease to everyone around her. The connections she nurtured were her everything, and she always made sure her loved ones knew thier immense value to her.
She was endlessly devoted to her dogs (Blaze & Ember), her flower garden, students, and loved ones. Her boundless energy and passion were unmatched and irreplaceable. Holly always inspired and encouraged those around her to embrace their true, authentic selves. She was right there with you if you were excited about something, even when everyone else thought it was “a bad idea.” All who knew her will deeply miss Holly’s depth, warmth, spontaneity, and joy. Her presence brought light into every life she touched, leaving an unforgettable legacy of love. Her essence will forever be felt in the changing of the leaves, a reminder of the beauty and impermanence of life. Like the light glinting off the freshly fallen snow or shimmering upon the water, her spirit will forever dance in our hearts and in the memories we share.
Do Not Stand At My Grave And Weep- Mary Elizabeth Frye
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am athousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on the snow,
I am the sun on the ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet bird in circle flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.
