Johnson, John Wayne

John Wayne Johnson, age 72, of Pearisburg, VA, passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at the Carilion Giles Community Hospital in Pearisburg, VA. Born April 1, 1945, in Narrows, VA, he was the son of the late Roe Sim and Mabel Kincaid Johnson.

John worked and retired from Celanese where he was a member of the Fire Brigade. Also, he served in the U.S. National Guard, was a member of the American Legion Post 68 in Narrows, VA, a former volunteer firefighter at the Pearisburg Fire Department, and a former member of the Pearisburg Moose Lodge. John was an avid outdoorsman, excellent cook and canner, and excelled in making deer jerky.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Mack Johnson; and one brother-in-law, Bill Evans. Survivors include his fiancé, Linda Campbell of Peterstown, WV; one son, Steven Campbell and wife Linda of Conover, NC; one daughter, Shelley Johnson of Pearisburg, VA; two brothers, Jack Johnson of Peterstown, WV, and Jim Johnson and wife Evelyn of Hope, AR; two sisters, Sandra Evans of Peterstown, WV, and Betty West of Wilmington, DE; two grandsons, Benjamin and Wyatt; numerous nieces and nephews; and three of his closest friends, Wayne Havens, Marvin Havens, and Johnny Miller.

Memorial service will be 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 10, 2018, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown, WV, with Rev. Fred Austin officiating.
