In the Zone 9/4/2023 8Ten years ago, I wrote what I thought would be my final edition of “In the Zone”, which was a bowling column (I guess that is called a blog in today’s world) that was a weekly endeavor.

Well, retirement has finally arrived and now is the beginning of the bowling season to renew this column saluting local bowlers from the NRV who excel on a weekly basis in league competition at the NRV SuperBowl.

When bowling, the sign of excellence is usually judged by a 300 game or 700 series. Not only did that occur recently in the Tuesday Open League as two-handed bowler Sean Hobbs rolled a perfect 300 game in the first game he ever recorder in league action.

Hobbs continued his excellence by adding two strong games to finish with a 728 series. Josh Bishop, who changed his style from traditional one handed to the more recently popular two handed method, finished the same night with a 700 series.

The same league produced a trio of female bowlers who were leaders in the league. Alyssa Mills was the pacesetter with a 232 game, recent NRVUSBCA Hall of Fame inductee Jordan Linkous with a 225 season opening highlight. Sarah Williams rounded out the trio with a 218 game.

The Tuesday Coffee League, which has grown to 23 teams also had a large number of competitive bowlers to kick-off their season. Curtis Vaught had the high game with a 249 tally. The veteran kegler narrowly outdistanced Bryan Hill by a single shot as Hill finished with a high game of 248.

The league also had solid performances by the women in the morning session with Linda Moli, Belinda Horney and Peggy Pollyea recording high games and high series totals.

As the season progresses, there will be more league scores as well as a bevy of high scores to update.
