Hurt, Carrie Vires Michie

Carrie Elizabeth Vires Michie Hurt, 100, of Elkin, NC and formerly of Savannah, GA died Sunday September 18, 2022 in the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC. She was born October 7, 1921 in Graysontown (Montgomery County) and was the daughter of the late Ephraim Glenn Vires and Elizabeth Ada Stone Vires.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Roy M. Hurt, Jr., and her sisters, Mildred Vires Carroll Moxley, Ellamae Vires Hedge, Lillian Rose Vires King, Elsie June Vires Booth and Lima Vires.

Mrs. Hurt was employed by the Hercules Powder Company in Radford towards the end of World War II and The American Red Cross in Richmond, VA. Carrie lived in Freeport, Grand Bahama, Bahamas; Savannah, GA, and Charleston, SC before moving back to the Radford – Pulaski area then eventually Elkin, NC.

Surviving is her son, Foley M. Hurt (wife Shari) of Philadelphia, PA, granddaughter Jamie L. Hurt, grandson Daniel M. Hurt along with several nieces and nephews.

Special thanks are offered to her care-takers Retha Holbrook and Judy Stoker for their many hours and years of loving care.

Visitation will be Thursday September 22, 2022 at 11:00 until 12 noon, at Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral service will be private for the family only. Private Burial will follow in the Southwestern Virginia VA Cemetery, Dublin with her husband. In lieu of flowers, it is politely requested to have a tree planted in Carrie’s memory.
