High speed chase ends in crash and arrest
On 4-19-18 at approximately 9:21 p.m. Deputy S.K. Vaughn with the Giles County Sheriff’s Office witnessed a vehicle traveling in excess of the speed limit just east of the town of Pearisburg on Rt. 460. Deputy Vaughn attempted to stop the vehicle, a 2003 Dodge Stratus, but a pursuit ensued. The vehicle remained west bound on Rt. 460 and reached speeds of over 100 mph at times. The vehicle crashed just east of the Town of Rich Creek. No law enforcement vehicles were involved in the crash.
The driver was identified as 20 year-old Skylar Lucado of Pearisburg. Lucado refused medical treatment and was arrested for DUI, felony eluding, underage possession of alcohol, and consuming an alcoholic beverage while driving. Lucado is being held at the New River Valley Regional Jail without bond.
Pearisburg Police Department and Narrows Police Department assisted with the pursuit and arrest of Lucado. The Virginia State Police are investigating the crash.
