Hickerson, Jr., Edward Earle 4Edward (Ed) Earle Hickerson, Jr., 92, recently of Blacksburg and formerly of Charlottesville, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, September 12, 2022. Ed was preceded in death by his best friend, partner, and loving wife of 65 years, Frances (Frankie) Hickerson, and daughter Debbie Deane.

He is survived by his children, Bonnie Schneider of Dallas, Texas, Leslie Cash and husband, Marty, of Ashland, Charlotte McKee and husband, Dave, of Blacksburg, Earle Hickerson and wife, Pam, of Lambsburg. Ed and Frankie were blessed with nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Family was always very important to Ed and weekends were often spent on family adventures camping and hiking, enjoying nature and the out of doors. He loved photography and shared his hobby and knowledge with the family including developing and printing black and white photographs in the darkroom he built.

Once they became “empty nesters”, he and Frankie spent their summers as Campground Hosts volunteering at Loft Mountain Campground in the Shenandoah National Park. Over his lifetime, Ed was very active in the church. He and Frankie were charter members of Jefferson Park Baptist Church and he held many leadership roles.

Ed’s 47 year career as a professional designer, draftsman, and estimator for heating and air conditioning as well as roofing, began as a laborer and rapidly changed to a trainee position in the sheet metal shop assigned to a refrigeration mechanic. He took classes at the Virginia Mechanics Institute and was given the opportunity to begin designing residential systems. Ed credits the many individuals in the mechanical field who guided him in his early career.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 8 at 11:00 AM at the Holly Memorial Gardens, 3251 Seminole Trail, Charlottesville, VA.
