Grissom, John Edwin

John Edwin Grissom (Johnny) age 67 gained his heavenly wings Tuesday, December 9, 2025 in Dublin, VA. He was born April 17, 1958 in Rocky Mount, VA. He is preceded in death by his dad Samuel Edwin Grissom Sr, his mother Mary Pauline Rose Grissom, and one brother Clinton Grissom (Sonny).

He is survived by two sons Jason Grissom and Gabriel Grissom, three sisters Debora (Debbie) who took special care of her brother & the late Harvey Keen, Rebecca (Becky) & Robbie Huffman, and Ginny Grissom; four brothers Samuel Grissom Jr (Buddy), Danny & Victoria Grissom, Timmy Grissom, and Matt Grissom; one granddaughter Alexis Sowers Grissom; several nieces & nephews including one special niece Lisa Peck who helped with caring for her uncle and many friends including a dearly loved family pet Lil’ Bear.

John was a loving son, dad, brother, and friend; who will truly be missed by many. He enjoyed spending time with his family and had an extreme love for the Lord. He also enjoyed fishing and had a passion for cooking. He spent most of his life as a painter but also worked several years as a groundskeeper at Memorial Gardens of the New River Valley.

Love and prayers for John’s family and friends. God gained a special angel who left behind many blessed memories and will be missed beyond measure.

McCoy Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. The family plan to gather for a Celebration of Life at a later date.
