Griffith Statement on the Fiscal Responsibility Act
Today, U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) released the following statement after voting against the Fiscal Responsibility Act:
“In late April, I voted in favor of the Limit, Save, Grow Act, House Republicans’ common-sense legislation to rein in Congress’ reckless spending, while also raising the debt ceiling by $1.5 trillion.”
“I could not, however, justify voting in favor of legislation that raises the debt ceiling by a projected $4 trillion without a majority of the spending reforms previously agreed to, as was put forth by the Fiscal Responsibility Act.
“I was particularly disappointed that the REINS Act was not included in this new legislation. The REINS Act requires regulations proposed by federal agencies, in excess of $100 million, to be approved Congress before taking effect. This would take a significant step in restoring Congress’ legislative authority, as intended by our Constitutional framework. I will continue to fight to get the REINS Act enacted into law.”

A. Chace:
Congress is like a drunken college student maxing out their credit card every month.. who will soon not even be able to afford to pay the monthly INTEREST on that debt.. and you want to keep giving them a bigger and bigger credit card? Congressman Griffith is doing EXACTLY what I voted him and people like him to do for us! STOP THE SPENDING BINGE!
Specifically.. if you’re even a real resident of his district, you’ll also know that pork-barreling greedy-elitist, power mongers trying to steal Virginian’s land through fake “Eminent Domain” for the Mountain Valley Pipeline.. we all know that this is NOT for the good of VA! They’re piping it to the coast to sell to international consumers.. not even helping VA citizens! This is nothing more than fat-cats bribing government officials who are allowing this private citizen land grab to line their own pockets. Impacting not only the environment, but also the local citizens, land owners, and economies of surrounding towns.
I’m proud of Griffith, as well as Rand Paul for standing up and taking on the constitutional violation and calling it what it is… a greed-bill. Check out Rand Paul’s recent speech on the debt ceiling[1] and what this kind of ongoing, reckless spending is.. and why it MUST be stopped!

Our District can always “count” on Rep. Griffith to vote against the best interests of his constituents. His vote supported the USA to go into default, which would be devastating for our country, but even more so in rural areas that are already impoverished. Thank heavens less crazy, more mature heads – from both sides of the aisle – prevailed.
The Limit, Save, Grow Act which he supported would have significantly cut many social safety net items. This man, who no longer even lives in his District, made tens of thousands off the massive tax cut for the wealthiest (which he voted for and added trillions to our overall debt), but is willing to deny hundreds in food and medical support for his constituents.
He can try to hoodwink us with his doublespeak, however Southwest Virginians see right through this. We deserve a Representative who actually cares about and votes for our best interest.
