Governor’s Statement on Education Policies
Governor Glenn Youngkin issued the following statement on the Virginia Department of Education’s release of the updated Model Policies Ensuring Privacy, Dignity, and Respect for All Students and Parents in Virginia’s Public Schools:
“All children in Virginia deserve to have a parent engaged in their life and to be treated with dignity and respect. The VDOE updated model policies reaffirm my administration’s continued commitment to ensure that every parent is involved in conversations regarding their child’s education, upbringing, and care. Public comment, input, and concerns were carefully evaluated and assessed to formulate the updated model policies. The Department of Education has delivered policies that empower parents, prohibit discrimination, create a safe and vibrant learning environment by addressing bullying incidents immediately, and protect the privacy and dignity of all students through bathroom policies, athletic procedures, and student identification measures,” said Governor Glenn Youngkin.

Moving to Charlottesville VA in 1965, when Virginia had NO PUBLIC kindergartens, I was shocked, as I had gone to kindergarten in 1943 in Binghamton, NY. All the wealthy in Virginia were sending their children to PRIVATE kindergartens. A Black friend and I started probably the first integrated school in the South, the Churchwomen’s Pre-School Experience for poor 5-year-olds, getting their names from Social Services, which is still in existance at Westminster Presbyterian Church for poor children, starting at age 3-months.
Today we project our prison population, based on the number of children NOT reading at 3d grade level at the end of 3d grade.
We KNOW who they are…OUR POOR, most of whom have no food, no love AND limits, no books, and no community. If the 2 poorest countries in our hemisphere, Cuba and Nicaragua; Canada; and Europe can have early pre-school through college paid for the government, SO COULD WE!!!!
But companies makes BIG money off our poor, who are not reading at 3d grade level at the end of 3d grade, as prisons become more privatized; who are on food stamps, Medicaid and welfare and live in public housing…..all from which BIG money makes BIG money.
At 85, I will not give up!!!! My hope and prayer is MANDATORY pre-K, starting at age 3-months for ALL children in hopes that they will not end up in prison, on welfare and Medicaid, and living in public housing!!!!

and all educators deserve the right to be treated with respect and not labeled pedophiles and groomers by an uneducated right wing minority.

Schools must be fully funded, lower class sizes, treat educators with respect and stop the horrible Moms for Liberty agenda. Teach history, the real history so that we can have thinking citizens.
