Gillispie, Albert Eugene

Gillispie, Albert EugeneAlbert Eugene Gillispie left his Earthly home October 5, 2024 to reunite with his wife of 57 years, Judy Ann Lucas Gillispie; his Lord and Savior; and family and friends.

Born July 29, 1940 in the beautiful mountains of Giles County to Albert and Lucille Collins Gillispie, Albert would call Pembroke, Virginia home for the next 84 years.

Albert was a Pembroke Corncutter graduating from Pembroke High School in 1960. While there, he excelled in sports, Basketball especially. There was no stopping the Gillispie boys, people would say and it is still talked about to this day.

After graduating, Albert worked for Rushbrook Cleaners; Pembroke Police Department, which did not last long because he said he couldn’t arrest his friends. So, in 1969 he started work for Clover Creamery and Meadow Gold where he earned the title of “The Milkman”.

While working for Rushbrook Cleaners he stumbled upon a pretty little girl named Judy Lucas. They were married July 5, 1964. They built a home and started a family. On October 27, 1971 a little girl was born weighing 5 lbs 13 oz. Judy would say she was so small, but Albert would say, “Don’t worry, we’ll fatten her up on Meadow Gold Milk.” And boy did they!

Albert practiced his faith in faithful attendance at Castle Rock Baptist Church. Beyond his faith, and work endeavors, Albert truly did enjoy life. The highlights of his life were going to watch that little girl, Milicent play ball, and later to watch his grandson, Lucas who was his pride and joy also play ball. Albert’s life was further enjoyed by vacations to Myrtle Beach; playing horseshoes; spending time sitting on his porch; keeping his yard in excellent condition as he would mow two to three times every week. If you were to go by in the middle of the day, you would find Albert with the second shift crew of friends talking at Little Giant. If it was a Sunday after church, though he would be cheering for his Washington Redskins to bring home the victory.

Albert is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Lucille Gillispie; wife, Judy Lucas Gillispie; brothers, William Gillispie, and Gary Gillispie; sisters, Dorothy Long and Louise Hale; brothers-in-law, Joseph “Bugs” Martin, Gene Long, and Raymond Hale; sister-in-law, Joyce DiRico; and nephews, Chris DiRico and David Gillispie.
