Flood watch through Monday morning
The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has expanded the Flood Watch to include portions of North Carolina and Virginia, including the following areas, in North Carolina, Alleghany NC, Ashe, Surry, Watauga, and Wilkes. In Virginia, Amherst, Bedford, Carroll, Floyd, Franklin, Grayson, Montgomery, Patrick, Pulaski, Roanoke, and Wythe from this evening through Monday morning.
Periods of moderate to heavy rainfall are expected. The potential for over 2 inches of rain exists across the watch area. The heaviest rainfall is expected tonight through Sunday. Excessive rainfall, may lead to flooding along streams, creeks, rivers and in low lying areas.
A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts. You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
