Flood Advisory Issued

The National Weather Service in BLACKSBURG has extended the Flood Advisory Until 1245 PM EST.

* At 935 AM EST, Doppler radar indicated light to moderate rain occuring. Runoff from this rain and previous rainfall will continue to cause minor flooding in the advisory area. Up to three inches of rain have already fallen. Several stream gauges in the area are nearing flood stage and still rising. A number of roads have been closed due to flooding

* Some locations that will experience flooding include…
Lynchburg…
Martinsville…
Bedford…
Rocky Mount…
and Amherst.

Additional rainfall of up to 0.50 inches is expected over the area over the next several hours. This additional rain will aggravate the
minor flooding in the area.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.
